turning obstacles into opportunities
When Tyler Clark of NC Lawnstar first surveyed the property in Oxford, North Carolina, he faced a daunting challenge: a 10-foot grade change that would require extensive engineering and planning. Rather than backing down, Clark and his team embraced the opportunity to create something truly exceptional.
“We built that entire retaining wall first according to engineered plans, and then we went into the pool installation,” Clark explained. The result is a breathtaking transformation that turned a difficult site into a luxurious family retreat.
a full-scale outdoor oasis

This EvoPools installation of El Capitan 40 in Surge Grey represents the ultimate in backyard luxury, featuring every amenity a family could desire. The sleek, modern finish creates a sophisticated aesthetic that perfectly complements the extensive hardscape design.
The pool itself is equipped with dual pumps and a heater, ensuring optimal performance and year-round comfort. Full RGB lighting illuminates not only the pool but the entire hardscape, creating stunning visual effects for evening entertainment.
Adding to the resort-style atmosphere, an elegant tanning ledge with spillover adds both visual appeal and functional lounging space. Further, positioned as a standalone feature, The Therma Spa in matching Surge Grey boasts its own dedicated plumbing system, pump system and blower, creating an independent relaxation zone that complements the main pool area. The salt chlorination system keeps the pool clean and purified naturally, providing a comfortable swimming experience without harsh chemicals.
massive hardscape integration
The scope of this project extends far beyond the pool itself. Clark and his team installed an impressive 2,800 square feet of pavers, creating expansive entertaining areas and seamless flow throughout the outdoor space. The paver system serves double duty as one massive French drain, addressing the property’s significant groundwater issues.
“We have a lot of groundwater in our area,” Clark noted. “Instead of having just a sump pump, there’s drainage all the way around this pool. The entire paver system is essentially one massive French drain to divert water elsewhere.”

overcoming logistical challenges
The installation required careful planning and execution. With tight access via a long driveway, the team built a pad in the backyard to accommodate the crane needed to lift the pool into the yard. The sheer volume of materials demanded direct delivery via 18-wheelers from the manufacturer.
“This was a big project,” Clark says. “We had so much pool equipment and so many pavers that we literally had our own 18-wheelers delivered straight from the manufacturer.”
setting the bar high
What makes this installation even more impressive is that it represents NC Lawnstars’ first project with EvoPools. Clark, who started his business in lawn care just over two years ago before expanding into pools and outdoor living, has quickly established himself as a dealer committed to excellence.
“We try to focus on larger, full-scale projects where, when we’re done, you get to enjoy your backyard oasis,” Clark explained. “You have a vacation every day.”
the result: everyday vacation living
The completed installation transforms this property into a private resort. The family now enjoys a stunning outdoor space that combines beauty, functionality and thoughtful engineering. From the dramatic retaining wall to the extensive lighting system, every detail works together to create an environment where relaxation and entertainment happen naturally.
For NC Lawnstars, this project exemplifies their full-turnkey approach to outdoor living. As Clark continues to build his reputation in North Carolina, this January 2026 Pool of the Month sets an impressive standard for what’s possible when vision meets expertise.
